ICANN: No funding for the needy

Today's announcement from ICANN reminds us that ICANN asked the community:

"...to develop a sustainable approach to providing support to applicants requiring assistance in applying for and operating new gTLDs."

It conveniently fails to remind us of the last Board Resolution:

"...any direct financial support for applicant fees must come from sources outside of ICANN".

Say Hello to the new Christmas Scrooge.

$48.5 million in reserves, and not a penny for the needy... but that's not to say that ICANN isn't a charitable organization -- after all, ccTLD operators that launch new IDN TLDs don't have to pay a dime.
